Beetroot Seeds – Easy to Grow Root Vegetable for Indian Home Gardens

Beetroot is a nutrient-rich root vegetable known for its vibrant red color and natural sweetness. It grows well in cool to moderate climates and is best sown from October to February in northern India and during cooler months in southern regions. Choose a location with full sunlight and loose, well-drained soil enriched with compost.

Sow the seeds directly into the soil at a depth of about half an inch and keep a spacing of 3 to 5 inches between seeds. Maintain 10 inches between rows. Beetroot seeds are multi-germ clusters, so thin the seedlings after germination to allow space for root development.

Germination takes 7 to 12 days depending on the temperature.

Water regularly to keep the soil moist but not soggy. Apply organic manure every 15 to 20 days. Harvesting can begin in 50 to 70 days when the beetroot bulbs reach 2 to 3 inches in diameter. Avoid overgrowth as older roots tend to lose their sweetness and become woody.

Beetroot grows well in garden beds, containers, and terrace gardens and is suitable for all regions of India with climate-adjusted sowing.
