



Red Maize is a traditional, desi variety of corn known for its vibrant reddish kernels and rich nutritional value. Called Semai Cholam in Tamil, Laal Makka in Hindi, and Erra Mokka Jonna in Telugu, this variety is rich in antioxidants and minerals. It is used for making flour, porridge, roasted snacks, and traditional dishes. Red maize grows well in most parts of India and is suitable for both garden plots and farmland.
How to Sow
Sow seeds directly in open, well-drained soil with full sunlight. Maintain 1 to 1.5 feet spacing between plants. Water regularly during the growing stage.
Harvest Timeline
Seeds germinate in 5 to 8 days. Cobs are ready for harvest in 90 to 110 days. Harvest when the husks turn brown and the kernels are firm and colourful.
