Description

Ash Gourd, known regionally as Poosanikai in Tamil, Petha in Hindi, and Boodida Gummadi in Telugu, is a nutrient-rich vegetable widely used in Indian kitchens and Ayurvedic preparations. It produces large, pale green fruits with a white waxy coating. Ash gourd is ideal for sambar, kootu, curries, sweets, and juice. It grows well across all parts of India and thrives in warm climates with plenty of sunlight.

How to Sow

Sow seeds directly in open soil with good drainage and sunlight. Maintain 3 to 4 feet spacing between plants. Provide a strong trellis or ground space for vines to spread freely.

Harvest Timeline

Seeds germinate in 7 to 10 days. Fruits are ready to harvest in 90 to 120 days. Harvest when the outer skin turns pale green and develops a waxy coating.
